Named Carlos by tradition of passing the same name throughout generations, I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I grew in the town of Bayamon. I had a beautiful childhood, not filled with riches but with the things I needed and the support of my parents. I have always been a little quiet, but not timid. Some may say I preferred to make observations and listen to my thoughts. On the other side, I have always been good at making friends, for which we can thank my personality. My mother says that I have always been good at school, and a very smart kid even outside the academic criteria. We can all testify for that, although I personally think that progress in school is only made when you get into the right attitude. My common interests lie in simple things: sharing moments with friends, playing video games, listening to music… failing at learning how to play an instrument (which I know is due to lack of discipline); you name it! I like to have fun, especially with the people I care about. My academic interests, on the other hand, have always been pretty straightforward: science, math, but mainly medicine. Since high school I thought about studying medicine, and my educational track eventually led me to studying Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. I wouldn’t even know how to express the gratitude I feel towards this institution: the things I’ve learned, the people I’ve met, the friends I’ve made! My preparation eventually led me to take the MCAT, ask for recommendations from my professors, and applying to medical school. I already have interviews to enter this year’s class! I hope I can share this experience with you, and that you can take something positive from it.
